Collaboration
At the first meeting of the Future Planning Committee, we discussed how children learn best and determined that deep and powerful learning happens when children feel safe and supported, have a connection with adults, and enjoy their real-world work. We also acknowledged that in order for deep and powerful learning to take place we need to align our practices to our beliefs. We spent our time together identifying those beliefs, discussing the challenges facing the district, and began the process of rewriting our vision/mission and belief statements. In our next meeting we will “confront the brutal facts” and use THIS AGENDA (to be posted prior to second meeting).
Vision
As we reviewed our current mission statement we dissected a mission statement to determine if ours meets the criteria of a "modern mission statement"

Development
The responsibility of the Future Planning Committee cannot be understated. The decisions that are made over the course of this year will impact students for year to come. In his opening address, Dr. Palzet explained to the committee that when a child is enrolled in our schools from the first day of Kindergarten to eighth grade graduation they will spend 1,584 days in our schools. The work that the Future Planning Committee is doing will shape every one of those 1,584 days. This is a responsibility that the committee takes seriously and will craft a plan that provides an amazing experience for all our students.
